County Attorney's Office

Responsibilities


The Rockingham County Attorney’s Office is responsible for legal matters affecting the County, including providing counsel to the Board of Supervisors, boards and commissions, constitutional officers, and staff, and represents the County in court and administrative proceedings.

The County Attorney’s Office:
  • Updates and amends the Rockingham County Code Book
  • Drafts and reviews contracts, bond documents, and deeds as well as General Assembly legislative proposals and legislation
  • Represents the Harrisonburg - Rockingham Social Services Department and other County departments

The county attorney reports to and is appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Criminal matters are handled by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
